Amy Hopkins Honored as Surveyor of the Year at Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors Conference

The award is the society’s highest honor

Amy Hopkins received the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors' 2015 Surveyor of the Year Award during the Society’s annual conference in January. “It is the society's most prestigious award presented to a surveyor who has displayed exemplary service to the society, and whose work has benefitted the land surveying profession and the public,” the society said in a release announcing the award. She is the first woman to have won the award.

Amy was nominated for this prestigious award by her fellow land surveyors at the Southwest Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS) which serves Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Washington Counties.  She was selected as the 2015 Surveyor of the Year by the State Board of Directors of PSLS.

Quote: “I am very honored and humbled. There are about 3,200 licensed land surveyors in Pennsylvania, and only a handful of them are women. So to be selected by my peers who are predominantly men was truly an honor.”

Amy began her surveying career as a Geodetic Surveyor in the United States Marine Corps.  She lived and worked in various parts of the County and overseas before finally returning to her hometown of Murrysville, PA in 2003.  She is a graduate of Franklin Regional High School and received her survey training thru the Defense Mapping Agency’s Defense Mapping School, Ft. Belvoir, VA.

Amy has been a member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Pittsburgh since 2007 and served on the board of directors as the Events Director.  She was profiled by Pennsylvania Business Central as a “Woman Making a Difference.” She is a licensed land surveyor in Pennsylvania and New York and is also a member of the New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors (NYSAPLS).  In her free time, Amy is an avid sporting clay shooter.

Ms. Hopkins is currently the Senior Surveyor at Morris Knowles & Associates, a Hammontree Company, located in Delmont, PA. Besides Amy’s prestigious honor, Morris Knowles & Associates is also celebrating their 100th Anniversary as consulting engineers and land surveyors in western Pennsylvania.
