Say Hello to CREW Pittsburgh 2022 Sponsorship Director Angela Gillot, Burns Scalo Real Estate!

January 10, 2022

How does your board position effect your career path?
I have made tremendous connections and meaningful friendships with our Pittsburgh chapter members, as well as connected nationally with other chapters by attending the Leadership Summits and Convention for 2 years as a BOD member.  I have made long-lasting friendships that I will always cherish.  Being on the CREW Pittsburgh BOD actually garnered my current job, so keep networking!  Also, CREWBiz can be an invaluable resource – please try it out!

What role do you play in the commercial real estate industry?
I have been a commercial real estate agent for over 21 years, with a short 3-year stint in commercial construction as a project manager with T Construction & Consulting Services.  I now handle agency leasing for retail projects within Burns Scalo, and previously worked at Hanna Langholz Wilson Ellis as a retail tenant rep broker and landlord leasing agent.

What personal values have shaped your career?
I believe it is imperative to carry your personal morals and integrity into your career.  For me, I pride myself on being responsive and as accurate as I have information – if I don’t know the answer, I will find it and report back.  Clients/tenants/brokers/business owners need to have a trust factor with their vendors, representatives, etc. and believe they are providing fiduciary responsibilities to them.  Be courteous, professional, responsible, responsive, and positive ALWAYS!

What is the best professional and/or personal advice you have received and/or given?
Stay relevant!  If it means reinventing yourself or your business model, especially in times like we are experiencing now, then we need to take time to step back and review your strengths and pursue them or cultivate learning them better!  Also, don’t hide behind email – pick up the phone and offer personal contact.

How do you achieve balance between work and home life?
I’ve always yo-yoed throughout my day between work and family, especially when my kids were young.  Daycare/school drop-off and pick-up, then work, followed by evening and weekend family time and events, then back to the computer after everyone goes to bed to finish the day.

Tell us something people may find surprising about you.
I grew up in Central Indiana but am an official Pittsburgh transplant having lived here 35 years.  I also skydived 78 times and LOVED IT!

Do you have any pets?  What kind(s) and what are their name(s)?
I have 2 Blue Merle Shelties, twin males, Princeton and Juneau.
